Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS BODY DIALOGUE?

Body Dialogue is a synthesis of my learning that I have received from yoga, the Alexander Technique, Stough breathing coordination, and the work of Marion Woodman and her team at BodySoul Rhythm- Paula Reeves, Anne Skinner, and Mary Hamilton. The reason I call the work Body Dialogue is because every practice I teach, whether its breathing coordination or yoga, is at the service of bringing us into present reality, and giving us tools to align with our heart and with the purpose of why we come here. My goal is to help create a bridge between the world we are living in and our highest spiritual desires.

WILL THIS HELP MY CHRONIC BACK PAIN?

Often back pain is a result of both physical and emotional strain. By understanding how to use breath in movement and charting the emotional thought process we can bring attention to the existing problem. I have created a back care basics protocol. If you are interested please contact me.

CAN BODY DIALOGUE HELP PERFORMING ARTISTS?

Originally the Alexander Technique was taught primarily to actors and singers. In the last 15 years Janice’s exploration of combining the three disciplines in body dialogue provides performing artist with tools that they can use to enhance their skill.

I SIT AT A COMPUTER ALL DAY LONG AND HAVE PAIN, CAN BODY DIALOGUE HELP ME?

When sitting at a computer the tendency is to collapse the front of the spine, sink in the chest and fasten your eyes to the monitor, which compresses your head and neck. Try to lengthen the whole torso, point your head and spine up towards the ceiling and release the back muscles of your neck. Body Dialogue sessions can teach you how this postural pattern causes shoulder and neck pain. Simple toning and stretching will alleviate this pain.
